Gassing during my last sparring still looms over me. So I’ve been focusing a lot on upping my endurance. I’ve been pushing it on my runs, I ran 2.5 miles with a 7 minute mile in the middle last Thursday. Tonight I ran hills. I will be sore tomorrow.
I’ve also been working on my punch output and economy of motion. I waste too much energy with my defensive footwork. 3 months ago I was out of shape, even though I can do it, it’s too much work to float around the ring for 3 rounds.
Punch endurance is a big thing. For me when my left arm fails, I’m dead in the water. Everything works off my jab. So I’ve been doing 4 rounds of busy jabs only. Unfortunately I have to do this in my off nights because my trainers don’t like to see it. They’re focusing on me throwing combos and are unsympathetic to my need to develop the jab endurance.
