Reunited And It Feels So Good

Published by Nerd of Steel at 3:44 pm under Uncategorized

Well it’s been 3 days of training and I’m so happy to be back. Sitting at home eating pizza and watching TV can be fun, but during your downtime you really forget how fun training is. At this point I’d much rather be in the boxing gym than in front of my TV.

I wish I could say I followed my own conditioning advice on getting into boxing shape, but I’m still pretty sore from coming back. During my downtime I did do some drills to keep up my punch output, and as a result my arms and shoulders are fine. Unfortunately due to the fact that I was babying my ankle, I skipped on the cardio and jump rope. As a result, in my training sessions, I dragged my butt in those areas.

I just came back from a week off myself, due to a rather nasty fever cold. Strangely enough, I had more endurance that I had anticipated. I think here the mind has a lot to do with the order of things. For me, anyway, I was antsy to get back into the gym, though worried I would be suffering from missing an entire week. Be that as it may, I did a decent workout and light sparring (if you remember, I’m quite new to sparring) and felt ok. Though certainly not by magic, it seems it’s often the case that if the mind is present the body is ready, or at least, more ready.

On the sparring note I actually scored a few shots for the first time and they felt solid. I felt much more relaxed and look forward to getting more and more comfortable in the ring.

    Welcome back to training, Jeffrey.

I think you’ll find that as you are more relaxed, you will be more comfortable and spar much better. With more practice, you will become more relaxed. Then the practicing and sparring will become easier. Best wishes for awesome training!
